Pargangtag Gr
Type Locality and Naming
Kuruktag region. The Pargangtag Group was named by Gao Zhenjia et al. in 1976 and formally published by Xinjiang Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale in 1981. The typical section is situated in south slope of Pargangtag Mountain in Shanshan County, Xinjiang Weiwuerzhu Zizhiqu (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region).

Lithology and Thickness
The lower part (Sainartag Fm) is composed of thin-bedded meta-siltstone; silty shale interbedded with quartzite. The upper part (Beisainartag Fm) is composed of thick-bedded stromatolite-bearing dolomitic limestone, crystalline limestone and minor dolomite. The thickness varies from 754 to 2000 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The basal part rests disconformably or conformably on the underlying Aierjigan Gr (Nansainartag Fm) of the uppermost Mesoproterozoic.
Upper contact
The upper part is unconformably overlain by the Nanhuan Beiyixi Fm tillite (lowest formation of the Kuruktag Gr).
Regional extent
Kuruktag region. The Pargangtag Gr is dominantly distributed in Pargangtag, Kuruktag, Xingditag and Yardang Maintain, also exposed in Xingertag, Moqinkuduk and Xishankou of west Kuruktag.

Fossils
The upper part yields abundant stromatolites (small reefs) dominated by Inzeria f., Gymnosolen f., Katavia f., in addition Patomia f., Kutuikania f., Jurusania f., Linella f., X in jiangella f., and abundant oncolite Osagia, etc.
